WHY TWO FRONT LIGHTS?
The Trans Baviaans is an unmarked route. You navigate by reading the terrain a dry riverbed, a fence line, the track bending left through the poort. To do that confidently at speed, in the dark, through the Baviaanskloof, you need more than one light.
Two Novas gives you 5,200 lumens of forward light and the flexibility to run your setup exactly how your race demands it.
LAYERED FLOOD + SPOTLIGHT ON THE BARS
Mount both Novas side by side on your handlebars, one angled slightly downward for close-range flood over rocky terrain, one set level for far-reaching spotlight down the open Karoo jeep tracks. The result is layered light: you see the surface beneath you and the trail ahead at the same time. Run both at 50% and you have a combined 2,600 lumens with 3–4 hours of runtime per charge cycle. Drop to eco on the open Karoo roads and ramp up for the technical kloof sections where you need every lumen.
STAGGER YOUR CHARGES
The Nova charges via USB-C and doubles as a power bank. At checkpoints, use one Nova to top up the other, charge your Garmin, or help a teammate whose battery is fading. You'll never have both Novas flat at the same time if you manage them across the race. Our suggested stage-by-stage strategy:
Willowmore to Rietbron (60km, dusk into dark): Run one Nova at 25% eco. The roads are relatively open and you still have some ambient light at the start. Save battery for the mountains.
Rietbron to Studtis (80km, deep night in the kloof): One Novas active. Use 50–100% on technical sections. This is the hardest navigation section of the race, do not save battery here.
Studtis to Jeffreys Bay (90km, pre-dawn to finish): One Nova at eco (325 lm) is more than enough for the final run to the coast. Use the Nova power bank at Studtis to top up the second unit. You'll roll into J-Bay with charge to spare on both lights.

THE LUMA KEEPS YOU VISIBLE FROM BEHIND
While you're focused on what's ahead, the Luma makes sure the world behind you knows exactly where you are. Sweep vehicles, course marshals, and other teams the Luma's 8 modes and COB red LED (25 chips) ensure you're seen in all conditions.
Run it on slow flash at 30% for the bulk of the race 6 to 8 hours on a single charge, well within the full dark window of the Baviaans. Switch to 100% steady when you're near a checkpoint, on road sections, or anywhere other traffic is close. The built-in low-battery warning gives you advance notice before it dies... no nasty surprises in the middle of the kloof.

GOOD TO KNOW
Both lights charge via USB-C — a single power bank at a checkpoint tops up your entire kit.
The Nova's built-in auto light sensor reads ambient brightness and steps down automatically on open roads, saving battery without you needing to manage it manually.
This combo is also well suited to any other 24hr MTB event, adventure race night stage, or long-distance night ride where runtime, redundancy, and reliability are non-negotiable.
Ships from Johannesburg. 6-month warranty on all items in the combo.
