THE RACE COMBO — 1× NOVA FRONT LIGHT + 1× PEAK RECHARGEABLE HEADLAMP

Built for the Trans Baviaans 24hr MTB Race.
Your bar light sees the trail. Your head light sees where you're going.

────────────────────────────────────────
THE PROBLEM WITH ONE LIGHT

The Trans Baviaans has no route markings. 230km from Willowmore to Jeffreys Bay you navigate by landmarks, instinct, and your lights. And here's the problem with a single bar-mounted light: the moment you look left at a junction, check your GPS, or scan for the route ahead, your light is pointing at the ground.

The Race Combo solves that. The Nova locks onto your handlebars and lights the trail ahead. The Peak Rechargeable Headlamp sits on your helmet and follows your eyes — wherever you look, your head beam goes with you.

Together: 3 100 lumens and two completely independent light sources for the full race night.

THE NOVA: ON YOUR BARS

Mount the Nova centrally on your handlebars. It delivers 2,600 lumens of stable, forward-facing light, a unique combination of close-range floodlight and far-reaching spotlight that covers surface detail and trail distance at the same time. It stays fixed. It lights the trail regardless of where your head is pointing.

Run it at 50% (1,300 lm) for the bulk of the night, 3 to 4 hours per charge cycle, which comfortably covers each leg between checkpoints. Drop to eco (325 lm) on open gravel roads where the terrain is forgiving. Hit full power for technical rocky descents in the kloof where you need every lumen.

The Nova also doubles as a power bank. At checkpoints use it to charge your Garmin, phone, or the Peak headlamp before heading back into the dark.

────────────────────────────────────────
THE PEAK : ON YOUR HELMET

The Peak Rechargeable Headlamp sits on your helmet and goes wherever your eyes go. Checking a GPS. Looking left at an unmarked junction. Scanning the terrain ahead on a descent. Spotting a teammate behind you. Your head beam follows every move  which is exactly what you need when you're navigating 230km with no markers to guide you.

The Peak has two completely independent beams:

MAIN SPOTLIGHT (Luminus SS20)
A focused, powerful forward beam. Run it at mid (150 lm) for most of the night : 7 hours of continuous runtime, covering the full dark window of the Baviaans. Switch to high (400 lm) for rocky technical sections, or combined mode (500 lm total) when the terrain demands maximum output.

FLOOD LIGHT (Cree XTE)
Wide-angle illumination that fills in what the spotlight misses: peripheral terrain, close-range obstacles, and the space immediately around your bike on tight singletrack. Run it alongside the main beam for the richest picture of your surroundings.

RED LED MODE
Flip the flood to red. steady or flashing. to make yourself visible to sweep vehicles, course marshals, and other teams coming up behind you.

THE BACKUP THAT MATTERS
The Peak runs on a 1,200mAh lithium battery rechargeable via USB in 2.5 hours. But it also accepts 3× AAA batteries as a fallback. Carry a spare set in your jersey pocket and you have unlimited headlamp runtime for the entire race — no charging required. Out in the Baviaanskloof, 100km from the nearest power point, that's not a nice-to-have. It's a plan.

HOW TO RUN THIS COMBO ACROSS THE RACE

FOR FAST FINISHERS (sub-14 hours)
Nova at 100% on the bars for maximum trail output. Peak on mid (150 lm) for depth and peripheral awareness without burning battery. Switch Peak to combined mode (500 lm) on technical kloof sections. If the Nova needs charging mid-race, keep riding on the Peak while the Nova charges at the next stop.

FOR MID-FIELD RIDERS (14–20 hours)
Nova at 50% for the bulk of the night. Peak main at mid, switching to high for technical sections and navigation points. Use the Nova power bank at Studtis to top up the Peak before the final run to Jeffreys Bay. You'll finish with charge on both lights.

FOR LONG-GAME RIDERS (20–24 hours)
Willowmore to Rietbron (60km): Nova at 25% eco, Peak main on low (50 lm). Open roads with some ambient light — save battery for what's ahead.
Rietbron to Studtis (80km): Nova at 50–100%, Peak in combined mode for all technical and navigation-critical sections. This is where the race is won or lost in the dark. Use your full output here.
Studtis to Jeffreys Bay (90km): Nova at eco (325 lm), Peak on low or mid. Top up the Peak from the Nova power bank at Studtis. You'll roll into J-Bay with working lights on both.

FOR TEAM RIDERS
The lead rider takes the Nova on the bars and the Peak on the helmet, navigating for the group. The rest of the team sits in the lead rider's bar beam and conserves their own battery. Rotate the lead role at each checkpoint to share the load evenly. The Peak's head beam also acts as a visible signal to other teams and sweep vehicles when you're at the front of the group.
